Happy New Year!

Hello & Happy New Year!

I meant to sit down at my desk last week and type out a wish for a prosperous and healthy 2025, but alas, things got away from me. Is it too late to wish you a ‘Happy New Year’? I always wonder what the cut-off date is, but I must say, I do love the positive greeting shared as we awaken from our cozy holiday respite and rejoin the world again as the calendar turns over. So, if I’m the last one to do it: I wish you a happy, healthy, and most enjoyable new year. All good things to you in 2025.

The auction reopened from our holiday break on January 2nd and we brought with us some exciting news: Our goal this year is to offer weekly Discovery Auctions! 🎉

If you have been with us since our live auction days, you’ll remember that we used to host weekly live auctions every Friday. Sometime in 2018 we transitioned to every other week, allowing the staff to curate a larger auction with more assortment. We had three auction rings: We started in the Annex with Tools, Electronics, and Box Lots, and then migrated upstairs to the Back Room with Jewelry, Collectibles, China/Glass/Pottery, and Table Lots, with the Front Room simultaneously happening with Furniture, Fine Art, and Decorative Arts. It was an all-hands-on-deck type of day, and moving to every other week allowed us to fill the building to the brim so that there was something for everyone!

When we made the decision to transition to an online model in late 2019 (yes, before the pandemic!) we decided to keep the every-other-week structure to allow us to move through the merchandise in the building. What we’ve found, however, is that people really missed us during the off-weeks! People love consistency and our goal is to bring that to you this year with smaller, weekly auctions that will include Discovery, Fine Estates, and Special Collections.

Since our building is still set up warehouse-style, we’ll continue to offer previews by appointment only on Thursdays for Discovery Auctions, and both Wednesday and Thursdays for Fine Estates Auctions. Just give us a call and schedule a 30 minute time slot to view the lots you are most interested in seeing in-person (5 to 10 is ideal!) and a staff member will guide you through the process once you arrive.

Additionally, if you haven’t figured it out by now, I am the voice behind our weekly newsletters. As the year ended, I often sat wondering what people tend to gravitate towards. Is is the auction links? The wacky art news from around the world? The staff spotlights? Blog posts? I’d love to hear your feedback- what do you want more of in 2025? Feel free to comment below, or email me at stephanie@briggsauction.com!

Without further adieu, I present my first Friday Five of the year!
